JIMBO II

James Flint, better known as Jimmy & fondly called “Jimbo” by his grandmother Ruby, Jimmy, was the oldest son of Sarah A. Flint and the late James “Jimmy” Branch. Jimmy’s life was cut short by a senseless fight at the age of 15 on August 20, 1981. Jimmy was killed before any gang violence hit the City of Boston. He was the youngest of five young men 18 and under from the Orchard Park Housing Development in Roxbury all within a years time.

Jimmy was a former Metco student and attended Boston Public Schools. He played basketball for the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club on Warren Street, and the Lena Park Roxbury Neighborhood House on Dearborn Street in Roxbury. He also played basketball in the summers for the BNBL Basketball League. Jimmy loved to skateboard and won the city skateboard award. His first summer job was at the Roxbury District Court. His favorite President was Jimmy Carter.

Jimmy loved and helped the younger children in Orchard Park to learn basketball and skateboarding. He also took time to teach his younger sister who at the time was 10 years old when he passed how to play basketball. She went on to play in Honor of her big brother at the University of Minnesota earning a full basketball scholarship. His other two siblings, an older sister and a younger brother went on to college as well.
